Post time to BTWB.

Ryan preparing to floor press and me in the upper right hand corner. In case you forgot what I look like. Be back next week!

What’s better fresh or frozen food?  Fresh of course, but did you know that there are actually richer compounds like Vitamin C and beta carotene in some frozen foods?  I’m a big proponent for buying fresh but I’m sometimes terrible at planning out my week or things just come up and this leads to me wasting a lot of food.  i was happy to come across this article on Yahoo! health that discussed the benefits some frozen foods have over fresh.  Part of the reason “fresh” food loses some of it’s nutrients is due to the time it spends in storage or sorting before getting to the end consumer.  Farmers markets and growing your own produce are ways to combat this, but even then food gets wasted if not immediately prepared.  Frozen foods retain most of their antioxidants and vitamins as they are usually chilled right after harvest.  Two independent studies were used and the information from the studies can be found in the article HERE.  What are your thoughts?  Do you agree with the findings?

As yesterday’s post alluded to, the CrossFit Competitors Course is making it’s way to Denver on November 16th and 17th.  If you’re considering it, I highly recommend it.  Having been to quite a few courses and seminars, it is by my favorite course.  I came across a great article on the CrossFit Journal site that speaks to the quality of the course.  CLICK HERE to read the article.

Reminder about October 19th and the two events we will be hosting at Verve.  First is LIFTUPLUKE, the benefit WOD we will be running to help raise awareness and month for child autism.  We will be starting at 9 am and running heats every 30 minutes.  We will have a kids only heat at 9:30 am.  Please sign up and donate HERE.

That same day we will also be having our October community event.  We will have stations set up for pumpkin carving, pumpkins not included.  We will provide tarps, tools, and stencils as well as some adult beverages.  Bring a pumpkin and let’s see how skilled and creative you are.
