Outdoor WOD's are brutal and fun at the same time!!

Recently, there was a video posted to the Crossfit Journal with Matt and Cherie Chan discussing Matt’s recent accident and road to recovery.  This video got me thinking, there are so many reasons we CrossFit.  Some of us CrossFit for aesthetic purposes or weight management, some for strength, some for sanity, and some for the social aspect.  While a more resilient immune system and faster injury recovery time may not have been the ultimate reason you CrossFit, it is DEFINITELY an added bonus.

We have several people in this gym who have fought their way through injury and are back to their previous level, if not better! Matt is a great example showing that if you are healthy going into an injury, you will probably recover much faster.

Take 7 minutes out of your day to watch this video and let us know in the comments section HOW CROSSFIT HAS HELPED YOU RECOVER FROM SETBACKS IN YORU LIFE!

  1. Linda Kiker :

Ok, I’ll go first. I feel like this one really speaks to me. I would say that I’ve benefited from a mindset of movement.
When I broke my foot I wasn’t really given much hope of healing without surgery. I was sidelined from work, driving and most of my mobility for 2 months. I think I knew how to react to this situation having been exposed to all things CrossFit these past 3 years. We get so much education on nutrition, recovery and training, that I feel like I pulled from that to deal with this “setback.” I supercharged my nutrition with anti inflammatories and calcium builders, got to the gym 3-5 times a week and rested A LOT.
I would say the mental game was more difficult than the physical one in my situation. Boredom, dependency on others and patience are challenging tasks. My positive attitude took a hit. But hey, I’m human. So even though I was kinda bummed, I kept moving forward.
Being a CrossFitter has taught me that there is always a way to MOVE (yep, said that word again) through whatever you’re thrown in life. That’s my little story.
By the way, Matt’s experience is one to be learned from as well as respected. He is a shining example of how CrossFit helps you recover from setbacks! Wow
