Mechanics, Consistency, then Intensity!

A friend gave me this quote awhile back that said, “I have so far to go.”  But a true friend says, “But look how far you’ve come.”  I like it because it’s very easy in this quick, time-crunched fanatical life nowadays to be focused on what’s in front of us.  What are you pursuing, where your journey is heading.  After all, you have to know where you want to go in order to get there, right?!  We even encourage that focus as coaches when we help you narrow down and define goals.  Our Best Year Yet Bash coming up on January 12 is all about enjoying each other, celebrating our accomplishments and moving forward this year.

But it’s oh so important to stop, breathe, and take a moment to look back and remember how far you’ve come already.  Whether you’ve been doing CrossFit for six days or 6 months or 6 years, you’ve come so far.  At the beginning, it’s an accomplishment just to make the choice to walk in the door, to keep coming back when your body is screaming sore, when your ego gets humbled daily, when you struggle through movements or workouts.  But isn’t it grand when you find that movement that you enjoy, that you excel at, when you are in the groove?  Don’t forget about all those PR’s you’ve had this year, whether 2# or 10# or 40#.  Every little step through the door and workout finished is key toward that continued progress.

Maybe you’ve had a setback or two.  Maybe you had a baby, sustained an injury, or had life get you down.  But if you keep making the choice to show up and take care of yourself and your fitness–then celebrate it!  Life will always throw shit at you, don’t worry about being perfect, just embrace being the best example of being human you can be.  (I think there’s a quote like that but can’t find it for the life of me right now).

So here comes 2012 to a close.  Take a moment to reflect on what you’ve done before worrying about where you’re going.  Celebrate your 2012 accomplishments and let’s hear about them!

  1. Joylyn :

Okay, I’ll start. This year I PR’d my deadlift post-baby and post back injury! I also got PR’s on Fran, Karen and Grace and made significant improvements on my handstands and handstand push-ups. Pretty stoked for sure! I can’t wait to see what happens in 2013.

  2. Michelle :

Okay, my biggest accomplishment was walking in the door and coming back again and again!! I have even set some small 2013 goals for myself.. .(remember, I couldn’t squat when I started so even small goals are enormous to me!) I want to do a pull-up and walk in and out the backdoor when it is open without having to struggle . I am hoping to work hard and do better everyday!!: :>)

    • Joylyn :

I love those goals Michelle! You’ve made some amazing progress this year. You look fabulous, and it makes me so happy to see you every day. I can’t wait to see what you accomplish this next year!
