That’s some serious determination!  Jen has been doing great throughout her first CrossFit Open, but this last week the toes-to-bar eluded her on Thursday.  She went on a family trip determined to make them happen before Sunday.  And she did it!  She was inspired by Danni’s incredible performance Thursday, performing 11 Clean & Jerks at her 1 rep max.  BTW, today Danni more than doubled that!  Amazing performances all around.  So proud of everyone in the Verve family!

This marks the last week of the 2013 CrossFit Open.  The Open has had its ups and downs.  From elation of completing more work than I was expecting to do.  To working through and being down on myself for an injury during this time.  What is important is that we all have participated in what makes the CrossFit community so unique.  The ability to compete with others in the gym, state, nation, and the world.  Cheering on your friends near and far.  Being part of a community that makes being healthy the most important thin.

No matter your place in the Open, you should all feel that you have completed something special.  You took the opportunity to challenge yourself to new heights.  Just like Coach Glassman said in 100 words of fitness. “Regularly learn and play new sports.”  I would add, challenge yourself to do things you would not usually do such as a CrossFit competition.

Lets make 13.5 memorable and have some fun!  Please join us for a potluck on Sunday at 1:30pm following the last Open WOD this year.  Bring yourself, your family, and some food to share.  Good times ahead.

    I wanted to add a little note to this… Imagine being my judge on Thursday and watching me attempt at least 50 toes to bar with not 1 rep for six minutes, it was Addie!! She smiled through it all and pushed me and cheered me on until the end. When I had to sign my sheet with 3 reps I apologized to her because she should have been judging someone else … and here is the cool part she said Jen you were so close your strength is amazing you are strong, work on your shrug and your toes were so close!! I should have left the gym defeated that day instead I left thinking wait did Addie say I was strong… I’m strong and I was close!!! She never doubted me the whole time!! So thanks Addie I’ve watched you do awesome work at Verve and you made my day!!!!

    Tenacity always wins out. Way to push the envelope Jen and Danni. We all get a little stronger every day and that makes us all smile like Addie. My fondest CrossFit memory was of Addie doing the Burpees over the bar, OHS, muscle up work out 2 years ago at MBS. When it came to the OHS I watched Addie fail on her first 3 attempts, the weight was 95# I think, more than body weight. As a father I couldn’t stand to watch, my heart was breaking for her, yet she still had a smile on her face. I turned away not able to take the pain I felt anymore. Then I glanced back and there she was in the middle of three consecutive OHS, a smile bigger and brighter than I had ever seen. That is the moment we all need to strive for. No time for disappointment, only time for PR’s. Even though she didn’t make it through the OHS, after time ran out she still jumped on the rings and did a muscle up.

    Addie is a super cheerleader and a super strong woman- she was my judge last year and cheered me onto 6 75lbs snatches (I think) and I cheered her onto 4 or 6? 100lb snatches. One hardcore girl. Keep it up and represent up in Ft. Fun! Great job Jen!
