Verve Athlete Profile: Dana Ellis

Where are you from?

I grew up in Tazewell, VA close to the Virginia Tech area. In 2005 I moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, got married and spent our first year traveling across the US working insurance claims caused by natural disasters. After 7 years we needed a change, and Denver seemed like a perfect fit.

How long have you been CrossFitting?

In 2009 I was employed at a gym, and noticed a group of fire fighters training intensely for the annual Fire Fighters Combat Challenge. Something seemed different and my curiosity led to my first WOD, I was hooked.

What is your favorite workout?

Body weight workouts, and currently I have been enjoying, what is referred to as “The Kitchen Sink” 3RFT 25 Inverted Burpees 25 PullUps 25 Burpees.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

You can usually find me on a board, either snowboarding or surfing, if not there then somewhere outdoors.

What is one of your best/favorite goals you have accomplished since you started CrossFit? 

Pull-ups! I can finally link PullUps. Next in line is improving my double-unders and mastering the muscle up.
Anything you would like to add?
Being on the road, I’ve learned to be my own source of encouragement and motivator when working out. When I signed up to Verve, I saw an immediate boost to my workouts, the coaches provide great inspirations and the atmosphere creates a longing to return the next day.  I couldn’t be happier here and I’m reaching PRs on a regular basis.
