Cpl Ryan McGhee, 21, was killed in action on May 13, 2009 by small arms fire during combat in central Iraq.

Guess what day it is?!?! It’s Thursday. What did you think I was gonna say?

When I worked for the fire department I found myself often working on the holidays. As a result holidays stopped being holidays and instead it was just “Thursday”. Things are a little different this year, my new job allows me to spend this Thanksgiving with my family, something I am very thankful for. This got me thinking about all the other crazy changes that have happened in my life this past year and how many more things I have to be grateful for.

I am thankful to have a job. I am grateful that job is doing something I love. I grateful that at my job I am surrounded by so many amazing people that keep me coming back.

I am thankful for the men and women, like Cpl McGhee, who serve this country. They are away from their families and loved ones fighting so that I may be with mine.

I am thankful for the LEOs and EMS providers who serve their communities. They too are away from their families and loved ones. They are at the ready and prepared to be there for you, should the need arise.

I am thankful for my orthopedic surgeon and my physical therapist. I am grateful they understood what activities I was passionate about and provided their care accordingly. I am grateful I am physically capable of doing all the activities I love and then some without pain.

I am thankful I was blessed with sweet, sweet dance moves. I am grateful I am often moved by the music and feel compelled to bust them out for all to enjoy.

I am thankful for a healthy, furry, four legged companion that has not once cease to greet me at the door and let me know I was missed. He also has not once cease to let me know he should be promptly fed at 7:30 in the morning, so I guess I am also thankful for my built in alarm clock.

I am thankful for my family, friends, and boyfriend who have spent the last year supporting every thing I have done. From surgery to changing jobs, I’ve had to call on a lot of people, and they all answered. Thank you.

I am thankful for Arnicare cream. So I kind of bruise like a peach, combine that with the CrossFit lifestyle and my body looks like I actually belong to a fight club (let’s be honest though, if I was in a fight club I couldn’t tell you about it, rule number 1). My most recent self inflicted injury involved a barbell to the forehead. Thank you sweet, blessed Arnicare cream for making sure I didn’t look like I was growing a horn.

I’m thankful for post-its. I can’t remember anything, they are so convenient to write on and stick anywhere so I never forget.

I am thankful for James P. Whitmire esq. He can always be counted on to read the WOD blog and leave a comment. The jury is out as to whether or not I am always thankful for his comments 🙂 but it is always nice to know the blog is read.

I’m sure you all have something you are thankful for, we would love to hear about it. Give thanks in the comments, no better day to do so.

I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Chanukah. . . Happy Thanksgivukkah!!!

Love, Courtney

    Nailed it.

I’m thankful for my kids, who drive me batshit when they’re awake, but are really cute and sweet when they’re asleep.

I’m thankful for choice. Each and every one if us has a chance every day to choose to do something amazing with that day. Most of the time I just eat a cookie and go to sleep, but still. I had that choice,

I’m thankful for Courtney’s sweet dance moves,

I’m thankful that Clancy didn’t seriously hurt himself when he slipped and went horizontal on bar muscle ups today,

I’m thankful that Danni’s willing to unlock the refrigerator every time I need coconut water, but I’m not thankful for the people who weren’t writing down the coconut water that they were buying and made Verve lock the refrigerator.

I’m thankful that the Chans are back.

I’m thankful that Luke’s rap career never took off and he was forced into coaching as a profession.

I’m thankful that Emmalee did three rounds of 7 muscle ups just for me today,

I’m thankful for the Verve family, No, seriously, no joke here, I sincerely and honestly love and appreciate all of you. I’m glad you’re part of my life.
