What a difference a year makes. By Cherie Chan

Last year at this time I was ankle deep in dust and beginning an adventure of a lifetime. It’s funny what a difference a year can make. Every time December comes around I get to reflecting on the year and ask myself, did I do everything I could do to make it the best year I could. In 2014 I lived in; Las Vegas, Santa Cruz, Palm Springs, Portland, Seattle, Squamish B.C., Jackson Hole, Montana, Denver, Conifer and finally Boulder. With a lot of pit stops along the way; approximately a dozen countries and many more cities in the U.S. I highly recommend that if anyone gets the opportunity to live on the road that you take it. It was an amazing year, maybe you don’t need to sell everything you own to do it, but take the chance.

With that said, I learned a few lessons I hope I retain as 2014 rolls in:

I don’t need as much as I thought I did and can live quite happily with very little.

Home is not a building, not a state and certainly not a zip code. I was made to “feel” at home everywhere I went, because of this amazing CrossFit community. But with all the fun and people we met, something was missing. Because home is with the people you love.

Money is only worth the experiences it can buy you.

I am not a city person!

People are the same everywhere in the world, they love, laugh, they WOD and they want to do the best they can do for themselves and family.

Worrying is pointless. You will find a way, you will be okay and there will be something else to worry about tomorrow, so you may as well stop worrying.

Nobody really cares what you look like, they care how you treat them.

The programming doesn’t matter as much as WODing with friends and adding a lot of intensity.

Being outside and connected to the world is just as important as getting in your weekly WOD’s.

True happiness does not come from success, or anything monetary. True happiness comes from having a purpose and caring for others, through acts of love and kindness.

At the end of 2013, I am grateful to be here with all of you at Verve and finally be HOME. Here’s to an even better 2014!
